Business Perspective on Smokeout

Statement from Dr. Marianne Fazen

Great American Smokeout Offers Employers Opportunity

to Help Workers Beat Their Addiction

Please attribute the following statement to Marianne Fazen, PhD, president and CEO of the Texas Business Group on Health and the Texas Coalition for Worksite Wellness:

The American Cancer Society’s annual push to have smokers kick the habit is doing much to help clear the air, but employers can help to make the annual smokeout a lasting success, one that will improve employee health and provide real return on investment.

Smoking cessation is among the low hanging fruit in preventive health care benefits a company can offer its employees.  An increasing number of Texas based companies are working to clear the air at their places of business by offering smoke free workplaces coupled with appropriate smoking cessation counseling and health care benefits.

More Texas employers can and should follow the lead of Dell, HEB and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas by making smoking cessation a top health care priority for their company.”

The Partnership for Prevention, the National Business Coalition on Health and the National Business Group on Health are partnering together to raise awareness about the business perspective during this year's Great American Smokeout.
